M.I.S. Refrigeration More for your money since 1995
Little BTU's of home care wisdom - No matter what kind of heating, ventilation, or air-conditioning system you have in your house, you can save money and increase your comfort by properly maintaining and upgrading your equipment.
- Remember, an energy-efficient furnace alone will not have as great an impact on your energy bills as using the whole-house approach.
- By combining proper equipment maintenance and upgrades with appropriate insulation, air sealing, and thermostat settings, you can cut your energy use for heating and cooling, and reduce environmental emissions from 20% to 50%.
| | Energy saving tips - Set your thermostat as low as comfortable in the winter and as high as comfortable in the summer.
- Clean or replace air filters once a month or as needed.
- Clean warm-air registers, and baseboard heaters as needed. Make sure they're not blocked by furniture, carpeting, or drapes.
- Turn off kitchen, bath, and other exhaust fans within 20 minutes after you are done cooking or bathing. When replacing exhaust fans, consider installing high-efficiency, low-noise models.
- During the heating season, keep the draperies and shades on your southfacing windows open during the day to allow the sunlight to enter your home and closed at night to reduce the chill you may feel from cold windows.
- During the cooling season, keep the window coverings closed during the day. Add window awnings or glass tint if possible to prevent solar heat gain.

| Typical System Improvements - Electrostatic Air Cleaner: Normally added in the return air plenum, sometimes replacing the air filter. This is a good improvement when the furnace has enough clearance for this add-on.
- Ultra-Violet Air-Purifier: Requires no special clearance. Must be installed carefully by a professional in the supply stream and out of sight. See Brochure
- Whole House Ventilation: Available in several configurations (Single fan, Attic Fan, Distributed House Ventilation). Please consult with us for a custom design/installation.
- Noise Reduction Kit: We install Special hardware at specific locations in the air conditioning system in order to lower its noise level for comfort. Please consult with your service engineer.
- Humidifier: Can be installed in the supply air stream to aid comfort in extreme dry conditions.
- Carbon-Monoxide Detectors: Installed in living spaces that are heated by gas fired furnaces. Read
- Duct System Upgrades: Performed to better seal ducts and reduce pressure loss. Also performed to enhance duct insulation according to current energy efficiency standards.
- Auxiliary Drain Pans: Installed under air conditioner coils that are installed in attics. The purpose for installing the pan (and an overflow sensor) is to prevent a flooded attic. See Picture
- Seismic Upgrades: Better bracing of equipment to prevent likely damage in case of an earthquake, including gas flex connections and manual shut-off valves.
- Seismic Shut-off Valve: Installed at the Gas Meter and shuts-off automatically in case of an earthquake. Read
